The UK is home to some of the most intense and most talked about football rivalries in the world. Whenever you have the Liverpool pitted against Everton in the Merseyside derby, the Manchester clubs going against each other or Arsenal against Tottenham in the North London derby there is bound to be talk about it all over the place. Have you ever wondered where do people talk about what club the most?
The Floating Sheep blog along with the minds at the Oxford Internet Institute have come together to answer just that question. What they did is filtered out random samples of geotagged tweets with the respective hash tags (#MUFC, #YNWA (#WengerOut?)) over a period of time and calculated how many people talk about what club, where. To make matters more interesting they mapped these tweets county-by-county. All of this falls together to make an interactive map of the UK, showcasing five major derbies and all of the twenty teams competing the 2012-13 season of the Premier League.
